A different used market
Harleys do not trade like sportbikes. Buyers are generally not chasing the lowest kilometres or the newest model year; they are buying a specific machine and a specific feel. That makes condition, originality and how the bike has been looked after matter more than the odometer. A well-kept older example frequently sells better than a newer, harder-used one, which is the reverse of how a supersport machine behaves.
Modifications cut both ways
Harley is the one marque where modification does not automatically cost you money — this is a culture built around personalisation, and tasteful, well-executed work on a desirable model can hold up. The distinction is quality and reversibility. Quality parts fitted properly, with the original components kept, are broadly value-neutral and sometimes better. Cheap cosmetic work, cut frames or anything that cannot be undone narrows the buyer pool sharply. If you are selling, having the stock parts in a box is worth real money.
What to inspect
Check for oil weeps around the primary and the base gaskets, which are common enough to be worth looking at specifically rather than hoping. Look at how any aftermarket exhaust has been fitted and whether fuelling was actually recalibrated to suit it, because a bike running badly after an exhaust change is a very common find. On the heavier machines, inspect the rear suspension and check the tyres properly — the weight and the way these bikes are ridden in the city wear consumables in their own pattern.
Parts and servicing in Delhi
Support is reasonable in the NCR but not on the same footing as the Japanese marques. Routine consumables are straightforward; anything model-specific can mean a wait. Worth asking about before you buy, particularly on older or less common models, because a bike waiting weeks on a part is a bike you are not riding. Independent specialists exist here and are often the practical route once a machine is out of warranty.
