Where the value is
Benelli depreciates faster than the Japanese marques, which makes a used example genuinely good value on paper. The TRK 502 in particular has a real following among riders doing long distance out of Delhi, and the 600i offers an inline-four at a price nothing else matches. If the numbers are what you are buying on, the case is strong. The honest caveat is that the depreciation is not arbitrary — it reflects a smaller support network and a smaller buyer pool when you come to sell.
What to check carefully
Look harder at electricals and finish than you would on a Japanese machine. Check switchgear, connectors and any corrosion around fasteners and welds, particularly on bikes that have lived outdoors through a Delhi monsoon. Verify that servicing has actually been done by someone who knows the marque rather than a general workshop guessing at it. Ask about parts history — if the owner has waited on something in the past, they will tell you, and that tells you what to expect.
Parts and lead times
This is the honest constraint. Parts availability in Delhi is thinner than for Kawasaki, Suzuki or Honda, and a model-specific component can mean a genuine wait rather than a few days. It does not make these bad machines — they are not — but it does mean you should buy the best-maintained example you can find rather than the cheapest, because deferred maintenance is more expensive to catch up on when the parts are slower to arrive.
The TRK 502X as a touring bike out of Delhi
Most TRK 502X buyers we deal with are not commuting on it — they are riding out of Delhi, to Ladakh, Spiti or across Rajasthan, and that is genuinely what the bike is for. It carries luggage and a pillion without complaint, the seat holds up over long days, and the fuel range between fills is a real advantage on routes where pumps are far apart. It is heavy, and you will notice that on broken surfaces and at walking pace, so it rewards a rider with some experience over a first-time buyer. If that is the riding you have in mind, there is very little else at this money that does the job as completely, and it is the main reason these hold their following despite everything below.
Who it suits
A Benelli makes most sense for a rider who wants character and capability for the money, plans to keep the bike rather than flip it, and is relaxed about the occasional wait on a part. If you need certainty of support, or you expect to sell within a year or two, one of the Japanese marques will serve you better and cost you less in frustration. We would rather say that now than after you have bought — and if you do want one, buy the best-kept example you can find rather than the cheapest, because catching up on deferred maintenance is where the value case falls apart.
